Pratt Industries is the world’s largest manufacturer of paper and packaging materials made from 100 % recycled feedstock, making an important contribution to environmental protection and sustainability.

The 600 million dollar new construction comprises two plants with a total area of 107,000m². In the 60,000m2 paper mill, the 100% recycled paper is prepared, and will be further processed into corrugated cardboard and boxes in the adjacent 47,000m2 box factory. The plant is scheduled for completion in 2023.

Anthony Pratt, executive chairman of Pratt Industries states that the Kentucky mill represents the “single biggest investment our company has ever made,” noting the facility will be “the world’s most advanced, environmentally friendly 100% recycled paper mill.”

Pörner received this significant order due to the good reference during the modification of an existing box factory in Ohio / USA in 2018. Once again, the planning is being carried out hand in hand with Carantec in Klagenfurt / Austria, which is responsible for the overall project as well as for 3D planning and piping, and with the German company Eurocon, which specializes in recycling and is responsible for the process engineering.

Pörner’s scope of services includes basic and detail engineering to Electrical / I&C planning incl. loop planning, support for installation interlock and control representation on the P&I schematics.

The plant with about 1,700 loops, 200 engines, 700 automatic valves and about 300 control loops is planned with the engineering software COMOS.

This way, Pörner makes a decisive contribution to one of the most modern and environmentally friendly box factories in the world, which at the end will prevent harvesting of more than 25,000 trees every day.
