Russia accounts to 9% of the world bitumen production capacities, making it second to the United States and preceding Canada. Demand for road paving bitumen in Russia is expected to increase by 32% by 2020, reaching 7 mln. tonnes. At the same time, government’s plan to improve the quality of roads and expand the road network by 63.000 km will provide more incentives to producers of polymer modified bitumen (PMB) and improved bitumen grades (BND-U).

It is expected that the demand for PMB will increase by 4 times compared to 2013 reaching 0,4 mln. tonnes, while for BND-U by 21 times, reaching 2,1 mln. tonnes by 2020. This trend will correlate with the decrease in the demand for GOST bitumen by 13% accounting to 4,5 mln. tonnes.

Evaluation of future bitumen market in Russia, as well as implementation of latest technologies for production, storage, logistics and use of bitumen in road construction were the main focus of the upcoming bitumen conference, organized by MaxConference on March 15/16 in Moscow
