Efficient & intelligently connected

Digitalisation in Engineering

The design of modern industrial plants is now inseparably linked to digitalisation. Complex projects require consistent data structures, integrated software landscapes, and seamless collaboration between all engineering disciplines. Digital engineering methods make it possible to accelerate design processes, identify errors at an early stage, and manage projects efficiently throughout their entire lifecycle.

Although the market offers numerous powerful engineering tools, practical experience often reveals limitations when it comes to integrating different systems and ensuring smooth communication between different software platforms. Especially in plant engineering, this frequently leads to data inconsistencies, duplicate data storage, or manual interfaces that impair efficiency and data quality.

The Pörner Integration

Pörner addresses these challenges with a consistent digitalisation strategy and targeted in-house developments. At its core lies the Pörner Integration – a closely interconnected system landscape comprising cross-disciplinary interfaces and customised software solutions for plant engineering.

This integration platform links the central tools of plant design into a consistent digital environment. It maps the entire engineering workflow – from defining pipe classes and component specifications through 3D design to materials management and project execution.

The result is an end-to-end data chain across all project phases. Information is generated only once, is immediately available to all disciplines, and remains consistent and traceable at all times.

The Pörner Digital Twin Lite

Another example of Pörner’s digital in-house development is the Pörner Digital Twin Lite, which is used particularly in revamp projects.

In many existing plants, laser scans are available, but  a complete 3D model or a traditional digital twin is often missing. As a result, employees previously had to carry out time-consuming on-site surveys – involving significant time and travel effort.

With the Pörner Digital Twin Lite, Pörner offers an efficient and practical solution. Based on laser scans, existing point clouds, and intelligent Pörner tagging, a digital model of the plant is created, linking different sources of information. Documents, PDFs, point clouds and – where available – existing 3D models are integrated into a shared data environment and made searchable.

The key advantage: a fully modelled digital twin is no longer required. This means that facilities can be digitally captured much faster and used for engineering projects.

For our clients, this means fewer on-site surveys, reduced travel time, faster project execution and significantly lower costs. At the same time, a high level of detail in the plant information is maintained. With the Pörner Digital Twin Lite, up to 70% of the costs of a traditional digital twin can be saved, whilst planning and revamp projects can be implemented more efficiently.

Greater efficiency through integrated engineering processes

Through the consistent integration of design tools, databases and project management systems, Pörner creates a digital working environment that goes far beyond traditional CAD applications. Modern engineering approaches rely on connected data models, automation and digital collaboration to increase transparency and efficiency in complex projects.

The benefits for our clients:

  • End-to-end data consistency across all disciplines and project phases
  • Reduction of manual interfaces and therefore lower error susceptibility
  • Greater design efficiency through automated workflows
  • Transparent project information for all stakeholders
  • Optimised material and documentation processes
